Disinfection of a Newly Built Drinking Water Pipe
For hygiene reasons, newly built drinking water pipes must be thoroughly disinfected and flushed. The customer has chosen a Sanosil product due to environmental considerations.
- What is being treated? Newly built drinking water pipe
- With which product? Sanosil Super 25
- Application method: Shock disinfection – flushing
Situation Description
A newly built municipal drinking water pipe is to be disinfected before use. The water pipe appears clean, and no contamination is expected. Regulatory requirements mandate disinfection to prevent contamination of the drinking water network.
Issue / Special Considerations
The customer wants to use a hydrogen peroxide-based product instead of the previously used chlorine solution for various reasons (environmental concerns, corrosion, AOX).
Implementation
The newly installed water pipe is connected to a water hydrant via a coupling piece. The disinfection solution, made of Sanosil Super 25 and water, is mixed using a mobile proportional dosing device, which is directly connected to a hydrant. After filling the pipe, a pressure and leak test is conducted. This also serves as the necessary contact time for disinfection, which is done overnight for time efficiency.
Subsequently, the pipe contents are disposed of through the wastewater system, and the pipe is flushed with drinking water. A water sample is taken for the laboratory. The test results are available within 3 working days.
Result:
The laboratory tests show impeccable hygiene values. The water pipe can be officially put into operation.
